Doña Julia Golf Club Ctra. A-7, KM-146 Casares Playa 29690 Malaga www.golfdonajulia.com | The Doña Julia course, designed by former Ryder Cup player Antonio Garcia Garrida, opened for play in January 2006.
The course is clearly young, and this will be obvious to the eye until the Bermuda Grass on the fairways really takes hold. But in saying this, the course has a great variation of holes and will offer a stern test for any standard of golfer. Many holes on this course have well placed bunkers and will often deceive the eye during club selection. For one so young, the greens on this course are fantastic!! They are quick, true and devilishly hard to read, often breaking the opposite way to first perceived. This course seems to change as you play it, gradually developing a ‘links feel’ as you draw closer to the 18th. If the wind blows, the back nine becomes hazardous to say the least. Your ball will feel every little gust as the ‘links design’ really begins to take effect!!
The clubhouse is small, as expected, but this is more than compensated by the welcome you receive. All the staff are polite and courteous and obviously this should be reciprocated. Ample buggies are available and should be taken advantage of. The Pro-shop is sufficient, and given time I am sure will be well stocked with quality products. Food is available although it does seem to be slightly overpriced!!
All in all this is going to be a great course, given time to mature. You will also be in for some fabulous views as you look back through the valley to the Med. However, if you are going to come away complaining about building work…… don’t go!! You will be missing out on real treat though!!
Doña Julia are very strict about booking tee times. They specify bookings must be made via clubbgolf.com with names and handicaps of players prior to your arrival. You should ensure you let clubbgolf.com book on your behalf to avoid disappointment.

Use a buggy!! As nice a course as this is, it isn’t one to walk!! Distances are marked to the center of the green. |
