  Competition report - Atalaya Golf - 22.9.07

Competitions

Atalaya Park 'new course' was our choice for the day.
Would the storms of previous days leave us in peace to play golf?
Course they would......this is Spain after all!!!

We arrived bright and breezy for the latest competition and a tee-off time of 9am certainly had a few golfers looking a little worse for wear as they took to the 1st tee.  The course was in almost tip-top condition and the greens had recovered well from 'spiking' earlier in the week.

A pairs better ball was the order of the day, and there were a few pairs that combined well and could have easily won on any other day.  Most notable of the near winners were John Phillips/Barry Griffiths & Stu Cannon/Danny both with 39 pts. Gary Chant/Colin Welland 42pts and Erki Meldo/Finn Arne Ostby 44pts.  'So close, yet so far', I think the saying goes gents.  Gotta keep those 'blobs' off the cards to win!!

Our eventual winners strode into the clubhouse with a look of satisfaction about them, and deservedly so!!!  They combined better than any pairing we have had before, and that includes themselves as they have regularly been attempting to get to first prize.  Today it was a different story as Wayne 'Joe' Greatbatch and Andrew 'Mitch' Mitchell scored on every hole for total of 45pts to win on the day.  Normally something would go wrong!!  Joe would throw that old, and oh-so famous, slice of his in just as Mitch took his eye off the ball for the dreaded blob to appear on the card.  But not today!!  Well done guys and we look forward to seeing you both at Valdarrama.

We had our sinners as usual.  Well, sin'ER' to be more accurate.  Yes Richie Bell, we spotted you!!  16 clubs in the bag is not a good idea, even if you do try and hide one in you partners bag.  You could of course say 'I only borrowed it for that one shot'.  But that too would be a 'sin', so there's no point really!!  Hehe.  And as if that wasn't enough for Richie.  He was later seen removing some of the courses 'flora & fauna' to help improve the strike on his ball.  This time I, yes I, was sitting in my buggy only a few feet away to witness the event.  If it wasn't attached to the ground, why did I hear a clear 'snap' as you removed the offending plants?  Never mind Richie, you won't miss the shots anyway!! Hehehehehehehe.

I must first apologise about the quality of some of this months photos.  We are still trying to work out how to reset the camera for some better ones next month!!

Our winners Andrew 'Mitch' Mitchell & Wayne 'Joe' Greatbatch collect their prize!!

Garry 'spell my name?' Berini, Mickey 'Glue? gloo?' Glew, 'Biff' and Russ 'mid-life crisis' Williams present their own version of the 'Daz doorstep challenge'.
Even Russ' hair managed to get involved!!

My word...... doesn't Richie 'It ain't my club' Bell
look like a fine and healthy specimen on the golf course?

But check out that belly just before he spotted me with the camera!!  haha!!
A few 'sit-ups' wouldn't go amiss........your face goes all red when you hold your breath like that Richie.

Paul 'Most cut' Williams, Wayne 'Weeps' Balfour, Richie 'It ain't my club' Bell
& Graham 'Noony' Noon.  Apparently, they 'enjoyed the banter'?!!
Good move with the new shorts Wayne!!

Michelle Goodwin & Nicola 'Nicki-Nacki-Noo' Cassels collect their prize for not coming last during their first competition!  Well done girls!!
(And, it meant I got to have my photo taken with some other good looking
people......... for a change!!  hehe!!)

Stan and Carl collect their prize for getting beaten by the girls!!  Na-na-nana-na!!
