  Competition report - Dona Julia

Competitions

Due to the popularity of the course first time out, we returned to the every improving....
...Dona Julia Golf Club for our latest competition.

Due to the popularity of this course, and a lack of availability elsewhere, we returned to Dona Julia for our latest competition.  This month, the weather was definately not with us.

In total around 36 golfers turned out in what can only be described as ''horrific'' golfing conditions!!  To say it rained for most of  the front nine would be a huge understatement.  The heavens opened as my group was on the second hole and down came the rain.  Then more, and more and more!!  Ever seen the rain in Spain?  True enough, we don't get that much, but when it rains..... it rains!!

We had the two extremes of ''Scotsman'' out playing aswell.  You know those hardy fellows from north of the English border?  We had Tommy ''no more rain'' Napier who, in full waterproofs, cap and brolly, walked off on the 3rd hole.  Hardly hardy I hear you cry, but I suppose age is creeping up on him!!  hehe!!  Then we had our eventual winner Stuart ''3 Roses'' Cannon.  He teed off in  pair of shorts and tee-shirt, played the full 18, and returned to the clubhouse in........ yeh, you guessed it......... a pair of shorts and tee-shirt!!  Not a brolly of hat in sight.  That's what I call hardy, or was it mad?.......I cant remember.  Anyway Big Stu had the round of his life.  Kind of reminded me of the old guy from Caddyshack who can't go wrong in the thunderstorm.  A fabulous run of scoring on the back nine gave Stu a total of 37pts to take victory by at least two shots.  See you at Valderrama!!

Well done Stu, and you can guarantee that you will lose more than the standard 2 shots after a back nine like that.  Don't  moan either, you've proved you can do it now.

I would also like to offer everyone who played my thanks for turning up on such a bad day, let alone teeing off!!  You really are the hardiest bunch of golfers I have ever come across......... nope, hang on, I remembered........ it was mad, not hardy, most definately mad!!   hehe.

Our winner Stuart ''3 Roses'' Cannon (left) collects his prize from event organiser David Goodwin who had the rare treat of playing golf aswell!!

I couldn't resist, this one had to be posted for you all to see!! Hehe!!
Wayne 'Weeps' Balfour collects his 'Esteporker' prize for the least improved player this year......and for some reason he looks surprised???
Well done 'Weepy', keep up the good work son!!  Haha!!
